Two numbers shape most projects in SMUD territory. The first is the battery rebate: SMUD has offered up to $6,000 toward home storage. The second is the export rate of 9.6¢ per kWh, which tells you a kilowatt-hour is worth more used at home than sold. Statewide, the SGIP program can also help fund storage for medically vulnerable households and homes in high fire-risk areas. On the federal side, the 30% credit for purchased home solar ended December 31, 2025, though some third-party-owned lease and PPA programs can still apply a federal credit through 2027.

Is a battery worth it if outages are rare where I live?
Outages are only half the reason. Storage also lets you use your own cheap afternoon power at night, which matters more as time-of-day pricing spreads.
My roof is 20 years old. Do I need a new one first?
We will tell you honestly. If the composition has under ten good years left, replacing it before the array is cheaper than pulling panels later.
